Similar to an airplane wing a torsion box allows the table top to remain rigid despite is expansive length.
Step 2:
Tortion box ribs assembled and ready for top to be applied 2-14-09
450 individual 3x3 squares were created, glued and fastened to the bottom layer of the torsion box.
Step 3:
Top layer of torsion box attached 2-15-09
After several meticulous hours, the 450 squares (i.e., the ribs of the tortion box) were leveled and ready for the top to be applied.
